About
Jon was a 10th-grade student at Gateway High School, active in student government and athletics. During his 7th grade year, he was diagnosed with cancer, although that failed to diminish his love for sport or activities at school. He became a wheelchair athlete, joining the Pittsburgh Steelwheelers basketball team and the Philadelphia Kates Komets. He was also a member of Chorale, Talisman and Stand-By-Me in addition to being a distinguished honor student.
Jon was fearless in his battle against the deadly disease. He taught those around him how to live life more fully, with kindness and passion. Jon died on March 11, 2005 at the age of 15.
His family created this fund as a way to convey their appreciation to the many caregivers and medical organizations that provided care to Jon as well as to support medical research into the causes of pediatric cancer. The fund also provides gifts to organizations that provide activities for cancer patients and scholarships to physically challenged patients who best exemplify the qualities displayed by Jon during his lifetime.
An annual golf outing at Grand View Golf Club is held in Jon's memory.
